Furniture Makers

Our team job was to find furniture for the CSULA parcel.  Each of my members went and purchased or found free furniture for our parcel.  We would share our findings with each other looking for a style that would work.  Once we found out how much prims we had our original idea of purchasing the furniture had to change slightly.  Some of the items that we had for the parcel had to be changed for parcels with lesser prims. As the group leader I built some of the furniture to help our group meet the needs of the CSULA parcel and the prim.  My group members really put a lot of work into finding particular furniture for our parcel and researching on what kind of furniture would be best for our CSULA parcel and how could we make it fit our prim count. I created the chairs in the conference room and table in the conference room, as well as the chairs, and Dalla thought of textures for the table and chairs, and Naveah added her coffee table, Coke machine, and Food machine, and Jessus assisted with placement of furniture and helped with textures of items and also built a chair that we started to use but could not because we ran out of prim.My group member’s job was to make sure the chairs and tables were placed and ottomans on the 1st floor.  Erendira came up with the idea of an espresso machine, so that they were suitable for visitors on our parcel.  They had to sit in the chairs and check the distance from the table. They also had to make sure that it was the appropriate height for any SL members.  This was a spectacular experience for my entire group.

The best experience

The best experience is learning how to create and experience a virtual world of learning.

The worst experience

The worst experience is the crashing of SL during my class time and missing part of the interaction in class.

What I have learned

I learned that the classes on clothing and textures were very helpful and interesting and interactive.

The best experience

The best experience in SL is that I have a chance to meet many people in different fields, for instance, teachers from another country, engineer, designer or programmer. We can exchange news, discuss same issue in different point of view. Actually the best part of it is that I can fly!

The worst experience

The worst part of SL is the program always freeze and I usually take at least 3 times to log in SL.

What you have learned in SL
What I have learned in SL is that I have an opportunity to meet people who work in different fields. So my perspective can expand more. I learned how to take online class in there, learn to do things in different ways, for example, instead of taking regular class in school, we can save time to drive by having an online class where we still can have conversation and share experience together. I believe SL is one of the effective way to earn knowledge through it.

The Best Experience in SL

The best experience in SL for me was when I did the T-shirt assignment.   I got to teleport to different places to look and shop for my outfit.  Once I found my outfit, I was able to alter and redesign it to fit the look I want.  I had a lot of fun shopping in second life, and redesigning the clothes.

The Worst Experience in SL

The worst experience in SL for me was in the beginning.  I had no idea what second life was, so it was frustrating learning the different tools and trying to figure things out.

What have you learned in SL

I got to learn some terminology used in second life such as teleport, prim, crop, landscape, snapshot and note-card.  I have been exposed to many functions in second life such as how to alter my appearance, how to take snapshots, how to search for classes and places, how to earn money, and how to build using prim.

The best experience

My best experience was through the newbie training seminars where there is support between novice and experience users refreshing their knowledge of second life applications.

 The worst experience

In SL the worst experience was during a class discussion where the site would have lag or ejected myself from the parcel.

What have I learned

SL has provided exposure how media can be utilized to provide learners with opportunities to create understanding about concepts, collaboration between peers, and distance learning within a virtual world.

The best experience in SL

Second Life itself, being able to experience this virtual world that was unknown to me before. Being part of the CSULA group and part of the building project is very satisfying

The worst experience in SL

I have to say none up to now

What you have learned in SL

I have learn many things in SL, from how to navigate to how to look for and take educational classes throughout SL. The latest skill and probable the most satisfying has been building. I know the basic skills to build items and structures.  Having taken the building and texture classes in SL helped me understand the concept of combining both to create a realistic looking item and building. I have plans to continue learning about this virtual world and maybe in the future own my own land.
